Our work campers generally arrive mid-late May – from then to Memorial Day
weekend is “flextime”, get to know your teammates, learn how we operate, take
some time to see some sights, get settled in. Similarly, after Labor Day, just let

Hart Ranch
Work camper applications are accepted year round. January is “work camper
month.” The hiring process involves three steps: (1) all applicants are called to
verify their application information and be interviewed, (2) all valid applications are
reviewed by the departmental supervisors, (3) hiring decisions are made and work campers

At the Mt. Rushmore KOA and Palmer Gulch Lodge we are very proud of our
employees. With a seasonal staff of ninety and positions ranging from maintenance to
registration, cleaning to reservations, bike rentals to waterslide attendant, our staff
members come from near and far. Last season alone we had staff members from Poland, the
Czech Republic, England, Germany, Wyoming and Hill City, SD, just to name a few. Our staff
becomes a tight knit group of friends sharing good times at staff parties such as
Wumplemas (our Christmas in July party) or beating up on one of our competitors (in the
tourism industry) on the soft- ball fields. With staff members coming from great distances
to serve you, many staff members live in our on-site housing. We offer dormitories as well
as work camper campsites. We wouldn’t be a great place for our visitors to enjoy if
we weren’t a great place for our staff to enjoy.
